Around the world – India

We have used the following applications:

Glogster

Goanimate

We produced the following animated products:

India

South Africa with an embedded Animation

Positive Experiences with Goanimate:

  • + Fun to work with anaimation
  • + Easy to follow instructions
  • +Promotes writing, reading and listening skills
  • + Can promote speaking skills, if feature is chosen
  • + Idea for slow learners: just type dialogues, let them read aloud by programme
  • + Differentiation is possible by quantity i.e. more or less detailed

Critical Remarks:

  • – the more detailed animations can be difficult to edit/ amend
  • – system crashing can lead to total loss of work  —-> ALLWAYS       SAVE        during      PROCESS !!!

Positive Experiences with Glogster:

  • + Works like an interactive Advance Organizer
  • + Good starting point for an exploration
  • + Makes comprehensive survey about a topic possible
  • + All language skills are involved
  • + Differentiation is possible by interest (free choice and varied instruction is possible)
  • Critical Remarks:
  • – Needs longer time to understand the functions
  • – Must be used precisely
  • – Lack of navigation after cklicking on the elements

Neue Medien ….

Task for group 3 (my house)

Haus-Villigst-009_03

My house/My school/presenting the place around you

Your group is has to take photos, interview people, make videos, write texts and design wallpapers (padlet) to represent the place (BAG 13/Haus Villingst) around you. Mobile devices will be of great help here but also the web tools. Edit and alter your photos. Make videos with your smartphones and post them to www.youtube.com, insert these videos in a digital poster and use it for the final presentation. If you have time create a www.goanimate.com video where you reflect on the learning process oft he workshop.

Please check out the possibilities of www.toondo.com (if time allows) and post an example on our blog as well.

Please don’t forget that every group member has to create a short blog post on his / her experiences during the workshop. We want to find out more about the usability and potential of new media  to promote inclusion in the EFL classroom.

Tip:

  • To use the online tools above you need to register, all you need is an email address and a password – don’t worry it’s free!

Task for group 2 (around the world)

banner_around_the_world

English around the world (Jamaica, India, New Zeeland, …)

Topics: Geography, intercultural learning, reading, food, videos, music, interviews, language, dialects

Members of your group should use edu.glogster.com and goanimate.com/videomaker/full to present your group findings to BAG 2013.

Imagine you want to create a lesson plan. The topic of the upcoming weeks in class should be: English around the world. You have found these two (obviously) very promising web tools and finally want to get started using them in class.

Collect ideas on a possible lesson plan using glogster yourself then develop tasks your groups of students can master with the help of the aforementioned web tools.

Please don’t forget that every group member has to create a short blog post on his / her experiences during the workshop. We want to find out more about the usability and potential of new media  to promote inclusion in the EFL classroom.

Task for group 1 (London)

London

London

Imagine you want to create a lesson plan about London. The central theme is: Students have to plan activities for a class trip to the British capital. Since London has a huge variety of interesting places and things to do every group of students gets their own canvas in en.linoit.com . Each canvas should cover different aspects of the trip.

Possible group topics could be:

  • Travel in/to London
    • How to get to London (coach and ferry/Channel Tunnel/train/plane?)
    • How to get around London (tube/bus/bike/boat/oyster card)
  • Attractions – Museums
  • Attractions – Parks
  • Sightseeing – The Top 10 sights you have to see in London!
    • What, in your opinion, are the top 10 London sights every visitor has to see?
  • London for free!
    • See as much of London as you can, without spending a penny! What museums and attractions are free?
  • The River Thames
    • Take a tour along the River Thames by boat, foot or bike, what can you see along the way?
  • Sport in London
    • Major sporting events – The Olympics, London Marathon
    • Football – different stadia and teams, Wembley Stadium

Every group has to find videos on YouTube and pictures and photos online to post on their group canvas. Each group has to present their canvas to the class so that everyone can see what they’ve discovered. Kids can also make a goanimate video on their topic to open up their presentation and create something fun.

The teacher’s role here is to prepare the canvases and give students possible links and addresses on the web so they don’t get lost.  Use en.linoit.com yourself to collect ideas and findings.  Also make a video with www.goanimate.com and publish it on our blog.

  • Some of the tools (linoit!) also work as smartphone/tablet app.
  • Don’t hesitate to come up with your own ideas when it comes to London.

Willkommen

Liebe Workshop-TeilnehmerInnen,
